Malawi is situated at the southern end of the Rift Valley in East Africa bordering Tanzania, Mozambique & Zambia. It is dominated by Lake Malawi, the 3rd largest lake in Africa which is well stocked with many species of fish unique only to this Lake. Malawi has an abundance of stunning scenery from flat plains to dramatic mountains, waterfalls, rivers and smaller lakes. Its people are well renowned for their friendly welcoming nature giving Malawi its slogan The warm heart of Africa.
Malawi is divided into three regions, Northern, Central and Southern. Lukwe Permaculture Camp is situated in the northern region in the village of Manchewe, at a height of 1150 m above sea level, on the edge of the beautiful Manchewe River valley. The camp overlooks Lake Malawi and the Livingstone Mountains to the East and Nyika National Park and the flat plains of Karonga to the west/ north. It is 4 kms from the historic mission town of Livingstonia and a short walk to the magnificent 300m high Manchewe water falls.
